Handwriting skills are necessary and important for children in schools of today. This skill is not a primary focus, but one that is requiring attention of teachers.
Dr. Denise Donica completed her Doctor of Health Science and Master of Health Science degrees in occupational therapy at University of Indianapolis in 2007 and 2005 respectively. She also holds a bachelors degree in psychology/criminal justice and occupational therapy from Indiana University. Dr. Donica is an Assistant Professor in the Occupational Therapy Department at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics through the American Occupational Therapy Association. She is a presenter for Handwriting Without Tears, a handwriting curriculum developed by an occupational therapist to improve all students handwriting success. Dr. Donica’s focus of clinical practice was with children within school systems and outpatient pediatrics. She is a researcher and international speaker on handwriting skills including historical trends, teaching practices, technolog’s relevance, strategies for improvement, and curriculum effectiveness.
