Over the past few years, the world has been replete with chaos, frustration and unexpected disasters. As we look back at the incessant flood of anguish which seemed to hound us at every turn, and continues to do so, one thing that invariably haunts us is the knowledge that countless young lives are snuffed out before their time, or are denied by circumstances a chance to ever achieve their full potential. War, natural disasters, famine, poverty and occupation: these are all phenomena which we can blame – and justifiably so – for having impeded these children’s prospects for a bright future.
